dotable.com
Hi Aussie Bob,
I first joined aussiehost in 2008 and after being very happy with this service here, I also opened an account at dotable.com (which was also operated by Aussie Bob & friends, but sold in late 2008 to the UK2Group).
I just want to talk about the changes that have happened at dotable since the new managment took over.
The first thing that caught my attention was a major problem at one of the servers (Jupiter) which resulted in a lot of downtime and some really angry customers...
For me this was not that bad, because my sites were on a different server, but I was none the less worried, because I do not like to change hosters after just a few months and so far I was very happy. I like to have a webhost were I can just keep my sites and do not have to worry about technical problems at all.
Then the next thing was I wanted to register for the forum at dotable but the registration would not work. I tried different browser to no avail and then submitted a support ticket. They said they would fix this (the forum is a big thing at dotable, because it is exactly the same model as on aussiehost - a community based webhosting site) but after about three months (!) registration is still not working. Also I told them about redundant information on the website (for example Live Chat is not available anymore but still on the website contact information) this also remains the same without correction to date.
Now my server "Shadow" got hit. Three days of downtime, good thing at first was they seemed to work on it hard, but once the server was up again about two weeks ago, there has been no more information regarding the situation, even though the guys said, they would move the server to another datacenter and assign new IP adresses, which is important to me, since I got some Domain Names redirected by A-Record. You can see the issue here: "http://dotable.com/shadow-server-announcements/2560-server-reboot-7.html"
To sum it up: I am not sure if I want to stay with dotable and would love to move my sites to Aussiehost, if it were not located in Australia. So currently I am looking for a new host, which is 100% reliable and has cpanel and WHM so I can migrate my sites easily. If anybody knows a good host in the US that can provide this, I would love to hear from you. Maybe some former dotable client, who had the same thoughts after the Jupiter crash.
To Aussie Bob, I can understand you sold dotable (even though you said after httpme another sell would not happen), but please contact Ditlev and tell him about this situation.
The main problems are:
1. People are losing trust in dotable due to lack of response and negative reviews because of this on their own board.
2. Support and team do not seem to understand how important the community feel of the site is. If the forum does not reflect excellent service and happy customers no one will sign up and existing customers will cancel their contracts.
